Wayne Rooney, my sporting hero. Underrated and unappreciated by many, but a Manchester United club legend none the less. Man Utd and England's top goal scorer with 253 and 53 goals, 16 trophies and a proven goal scorer since he first broke onto the scene. His best international tournament was also his first, Euro 2004 where he was arguably England's best player, putting in great performances and scoring 4 goals during England's run, which sadly ended to Portugal on penalties. The rest of his international career was largely overshadowed by poor performances at following tournaments, but he still ended up becoming England's all time top scorer in 2016. Worth noting that not many England players can hold their head high during international tournaments that Rooney was apart of. It was the 2009/2010 season that was arguably his best, scoring 34 goals in 44 appearances. He contributed greatly to Man Utd's trophy haul, winning the Premier League in 2007,08,09,11 and 13. Along with the league, Rooney helped Utd win the Champions league in 2008. He lifted the Fa Cup in 2016, and ended on a high winning the Europa League in 2017. Individual accolades range from Players' player of the year, Young player of the year, Fans' player of the year, Golden Boy Award and Premier League player of the season. I have two main memories of Wayne Rooney's time for both Manchester United and England. The more popular and well known one was his bicycle kick vs Man City. One which will most likely not be on peoples list is his goal at the 2014 World Cup when he finally scored a World Cup goal. My favourite footballer of all time and I will continue to support him for the rest of his career.
